Dialectic between human spirituality and evil

After undertaking the hermeneutic way of spirituality, the search will be set as follows: for us today, what meanings of spirituality may be best to explore, investigate? A line of sense is indicated by the name of all this path, “human spirituality”. The expression means that I feel fruitful investigating spirituality by considering it as a humanity world. In other words, I’m not very interested in just establishing what the world is; I am more interested in taking into account that the world for me is always something human, is always an experience filtered by my humanity. This is also the path taken by philosophy in general. Within this discussion, I pay attention to the fact that in our experience there is also the non-human or even what goes specifically against humanity. I call all this “evil”. Therefore, the spirituality that seems to me fruitful to investigate develops in the dialectic between humanity and non humanity, that is, between humanity and evil. I find this dialectic expressed in a strong way in the symbol of Christianity, the cross: in the cross there is a man and there is his death, that is evil. This is in my opinion the most concentrated and more fruitful symbol for those who want to enter a path of spirituality.

We may be wondering why choose precisely this dialectic and not others. On the one hand, I find it justified by the path that I think philosophy has covered, since it was born until now; in other respects, in any case the opportunity to discuss alternative routes remains. In the proposed discussion we would have to investigate what “humanity” and what “evil” means, not forgetting that the paths to explore should not be only intellectual, but also experiential: spirituality is in fact experience and today to understand seems in need to be put quite aside to make more room to listening to experience. Covering a path of spirituality means, among other things, trying to learn to be able to listen to experience.
